More consultation on York Central development

Developers have launched further consultation on the future of the York Central site on Leeman Road. There will be a series of consultation meetings over the next few weeks together with an online session.

The development is potentially very significant for the local economy. It promises 2500 new homes, 6500 “high value” new jobs and 1 million sq ft of office space.

The developers claim that it could inject £1.2 billion into the local economy.

However, there are aspects of the development that have proved to be controversial. A one-way stytem in the Leeman Road tunnel promises traffic change across a large area, while the appalling pedestrian/strong cyclist bridge from Wilton Rise has not so far been identified for improvement.

Some Leeman Road residents say that the Railway Museum’s plan to sever the road will lead to unacceptable extra journey lengths for pedestrians.

The developers have issued a newsletter which can be downloaded by clicking here
