Rear entrance to railway station open but access limited

Update 22nd April 2024: The new road around Queen Street bridge is now open for use. The area will be closed again next weekend.

The rear, Lowther Terrace, entrance to York railway station has reopened as promised a few days ago

During the closure of Queen Street this weekend it has been used mainly by pedestrians and some cyclists. The only route is to the station itself with cyclists having to walk their machines along the platform if they wish to reach the Scarborough bridge.

The access from the car park to Queen Street should be open again on weekdays.

Todays staff were trying to extract those cars which had been parked in the car park since before the Queen Street works commenced. In the main, this mvolved driving over the recently surfaced new carriageway diversion. There was no egress to Queen Street from the car park for pedestrians or cyclists.

Quite what routes – if any – will be available next weekend, when the demolition work is expected to step up, remains to be seen.
