LNER Community Stadium capacity increased to 8500

The LNER Community Stadium capacity has increased to 8500 ahead of York City’s first round FA Cup clash.

Thousands more fans can cheer on the city’s sports clubs after the LNER Community stadium reached another milestone.

Following further assessments of matchday arrangements, the stunning new stadium can operate to its full capacity of 8500.

It is a timely boost for York City’s impressive FA Cup run, with a big crowd expected for the first round clash with Buxton this Saturday.  However average home attendances for the football club this season are below 3000, so it is likely that a plumb 3rd round cup tie may be required if a “sell out” is to be seen anytime soon.

York Stadium Management Company, which operates the stadium, was granted the ‘unrestricted’ certificate by York’s Safety at Sports Advisory Group yesterday (Tuesday 2 November).

The stadium plan was conceived in 2010 but work on it was not completed until earlier this year.

The stadium and adjoining sports complex is subsidised to the tune of around £1.6 million a year by York taxpayers.
